BABY BUNTING BAG
Size:
To fit a baby up to 6 months. Length to shoulder, 56cm. Sleeve seam, 13.5cm.
Tension:
11 stitches and 9 rows to 10cm over half-treble worked on a No. 5.50mm hook.
Materials:
300g Chunky Yarn
5.50mm crochet hook
8 snaps or large buttons
Ribbon for trimming
Back:
Using 5.50mm hook make 38 chain.
Work 1 half-treble into 3rd chain from hook, then 1 half-treble into each chain to end.
Turn. 37 half-treble worked.
Next row work 2 chain to count as 1st half-treble, miss 1st stitch, work a half-treble into next and every stitch to end of row. Work last half-treble into turning chain of previous row. Turn.
Continue working in rows of half-treble in this way until back measures 56cm.
Draw yarn through and fasten off.
Left Front:
Using 5.50mm hook make 18 chain.
Work 1 half-treble into 3rd chain from hook, 1 half-treble into each chain to end.
Turn. 17 half-treble.
Continue working in rows of half-treble as given for back.
Work until left front measures same as back.
Draw yarn through and fasten off.
Right Front:
Using 5.50mm hook make 24 chain.
Work 1 half-treble into 3rd chain from hook, 1 half-treble into each chain to end.
Turn. 23 half-treble.
Continue working in rows of half-treble until right front measures same as back.
Draw yarn through and fasten off.
Sleeves:
Using 5.50mm hook make 24 chain.
Work 1 half-treble into each chain to end of row. 23 half-treble.
Continue working in half-treble until sleeve measures 13.5cm.
Draw yarn through and fasten off.
Base:
Using 5.50mm hook make 9 chain.
Work 1 half-treble into 3rd chain from hook, 1 half-treble into each chain to end.
Turn. 8 half-trebles.
Continue working in rows of half-treble until piece measures 34cm.
Draw yarn through and fasten off.
Hood:
Using 5.5 mm hook make 29 chain.
Work 1 half-treble into 3rd chain from hook, then 1 half-treble into each chain to end.
Turn.28 half-trebles.
Continue for 33 rows of half-treble.
To make up:
With right sides of work facing, pin back and front pieces together with right front overlapping left front by approximately 5cm.
Using a flat seam throughout join right and left shoulder seams for 9cm at each side. Mark a point 9cm from shoulder on side seams for armholes. With right sides facing sew sleeve tops in position along armhole opening.
Join side and sleeve seams.
Join right front to left front on the right side, for 9 cm from bottom edge where they overlap. Sew the left front to the right front on the wrong side in the same way.
Pin the base to the bottom of the bag matching side seams to centre of base ends.
Sew in place using a flat seam.
Sew hood to neck of bunting bag with one edge even with left front and ending about 2 inches from edge of right front. Sew top centre seam in hood.
Overlap left over right front and lay flat. Place one snap or button at neck edge on the right inside layer and three more at even intervals down the front. Attach corresponding snaps or chained yarn loops on the left outside layer.
Thread ribbon through the last row of half-trebles on the sleeves and draw up. Thread long ribbon through front edge of hood starting at the button or snap and ending at the loop or snap.
