RIPPLING WAVES AFGHAN
This afghan as shown was knitted with the center strip as the dark tone, moving out to the light tone for outside edges. You can reverse this arrangement or select a variety of colors to suit your own decor. By altering the needle size, number and/or length of the panels you can make other sizes to suit your requirements.
Materials:
Canadian Knitting Worsted or Canadiana Sayelle.
4 (50 g) balls dark (D)
7 balls medium dark (MD)
7 balls medium light (ML)
7 balls light (L)
Two 6 mm knitting needles or whichever needles you require to produce the tension given below.
Tension: 4 sts and 6 rows = 1 inch (2.5 cm) in stocking stitch.
Measurements: Approximately 52 x 60 inches (132 x 152 cm).
Knitting: With D, cast on 36 sts.
1st row: (Wrong side).
K1. K2tog. K6. Y fwd. K1. Y fwd. K6. (K2tog)twice. K6. Y fwd. K1. Y fwd. K6. K2tog. K1.
2 nd row: Purl.
3 rd row: Knit
These 3 rows complete one pattern.
Continue even in pattern until there are 60 purl stripes having a purl stripe at beginning and end. Cast off. This strip should measure 7-1/4 inches (18 cm) wide and 60 inches (152 cm) long.
Make 2 strips each with MD, ML and L.
To Make Up: Being sure to have the cast-off edge of each strip at top of afghan and using darker of the two colors, sew strips together. Press lightly.
