SPICY GINGERBREAD
2 cups sifted enriched flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup molasses
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening, melted
1 tsp ginger
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp vinegar and
1/2 tsp ground cloves
boiling water to make 1 cup
Mix flour, soda, salt and spices together.
Beat sugar, molasses and shortening into eggs.
Add dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
Add combined vinegar and water and stir until well blended.
Pour into greased 9" X 9" X 2" pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350 F/175 C) about 45 minutes.
